The heart is ever warmed by friendship when that friendship is sincere, kindly, and constant. Men need the sustaining blessing of spiritual friendship, whether they think they do or not. It is a generic statement found in the first book of the Pentateuch: "It is not good that man should be alone" (Gen. 2:18). The Beloved Master Jesus said, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13). The story of Damon and Pythias historically records the meaning of great friendship. We are the Friends of all those who revere God's Will, Intelligence, and Loving Presence.
Yet, the encouragement of spiritual friendship between unascended beings is a method of magnifying Divine Love among men and assisting thereby the expansion of the Kingdom of Heaven upon Earth. Surely men and women ought to be made aware of the need to keep their friendships on a spiritual basis so that entangling alliances are not formed to strangle the noble aspects of the Soul's progressive journey into Reality.
I AM certain that the media of true friendship need not expose the individual, who offers his loving attention, to the repulse of cruel and egocentric individuals who will spurn the proffered offering as a method of bolstering a sagging ego. But if such exposure occurs, it need not be a drag upon the energies and feelings as long as individuals are aware of the treachery of the carnal mind, without personalizing its vibrations. Keep yourself free as you offer your friendship by calling unto the Friend of all friends, God, to seal your offer of friendly assistance in the loving Protection of His own Great Heart Flame of Cosmic Friendship.
Needless to say, spiritual friendship can be above all human idiosyncrasies and idolatry; and it is then spiritual indeed. Harmony, natural appreciation, study of the Great Cosmic Law, mutual prayer pacts, and service rendered jointly to others are invaluable in expanding the Light within the Souls of men. Facing the problems of the world together is often easier than going it alone. Therefore, I AM strongly advocating that Our chelas take "under their wings" one or more individuals with whom they can Journey along the road that leads to their mutual Freedom. The only danger here lies in "cliques" whereby competition and false protection is exercised, contrary to the Law of Love and playing one spiritual team against another. Each inter-group relationship should be based on Ascended Master Friendship which always serves first for the good of all and then the group, lastly for the personal self.
Returning to the idea of true friendship and how successful it can make and keep any endeavor, I want to indicate that friendship can be marital between husband and wife, lovers seeking the most Beloved ONE of all, between brothers and sisters, spiritual companions, and between neighbors and casual acquaintances. This true friendship, like any endeavor, must be nourished by some attention, planted, watered, cared for and harvested. Every possible embellishment is permissible as long as the Great Law of Love and kindness is satisfied and the words, "Thou shalt love the Lord Thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength ... and thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself," are remembered (Mark 12:30,31).
I wish now that all might expand the bonds of divine friendship in winning many to the Light of the Ascended Masters. May you maintain full Protection for your efforts by skillfully consulting your Own Beloved Holy Christ Self and Mighty "I AM" God Presence as you pursue the Path of Spiritual Discipleship and Friendship with God and Man 'neath the skies of Heaven and the bounds of time.
How beautiful is the pathway that leads to spiritual Knighthood. I recall well the record of the search for the Holy Grail, for truly many of Us participated both at inner and outer levels in this magnificent pageant and drama of the fullness of Divine Manhood. Chivalry is not dead today, as every VIRTUE IS DIVINE and retains the permanent charge placed there by God's own Hand. Appearances so belie the Mighty Truth of Life in the human octave, and yet, in the stillness of the Silence within the blessed hearts of men, the Voice of God speaks in accents strong, amplifying every virtue there.
It is out of the Virtues of God within men that the substance of spiritual friendship is drawn, magnetized into tiny threads of service at first and then woven into magnificent garments of Light. How beautiful then is the bond of this friendship, and what wonderful acts can be performed by those who renew the ancient covenants of true Brotherhood.
Christianity was made a force for service to the Earth by means of the early Christian Bond, composed of the blessed teachings and practices instituted by My Son, Jesus, and adhered to in Christly charity by our early practitioners of Christian wisdom. Today, after two thousand years, the simple and basic truths of the Great Cosmic Law taught in the Christian mysteries are covered over by a layer of dark cloth woven of human concepts and mental turmoils whose perversions of the Divine Way are legion.
A return to the simple ritual of pure friendship, unconditioned by expectation of human reward, will obtain for everyone that divine abundance which is mankind's natural birthright. All things in Heaven and Earth are given into the hand of the MANifestation of GOD, and without God there is not and cannot be permanent manifestation!
Seldom do men pause to realize that Love must have an object upon which to lavish Its affection. Too many blindly idolize themselves and merely project this image to another without ever knowing the depth of the precious Christly wisdom which may be enclosed within the heart of a friend. The safety of Life is, as Saint Germain has declared, "in the Great Attention of mankind upon their Source." When friendship is made the object of increasing the flow of sustained Christ Radiance, many men will have the transfiguring experiences upon the mountaintop. The Summit of Divine Friendship will unite the Peter's and the John's, but it will also magnetize the Love of Ascended Beings such as Moses and Elias. Thus will the garments of men be whitened into Purity by the terrific and internal Magnificence of Friendship with God in Man.
